Trying to run EPF on 64-bit Linux, I documented a quick hack: swap in Eclipse 64-bit, adjust folders, and launch with a script.

EPF is pretty cool for documenting processes. Sadly, development has stalled years ago, and people have been waiting for many years for a 64-bit Linux version.  As I need to use the tool again, I tried once more to find a solution. Here is what I got (beware, it’s quick and dirty):

  • Download the latest EPF Linux (yup, 32 bit version)
  • Download Eclipse 3.6.2 Linux 64 bit (yup, it’s ancient)
  • copy the content of the Eclipse folder onto the EPF Folder. Existing files shall be overwritten. (With this hack, we replace Eclipse-specific plugins, while leaving the EPF-Plugins intact
  • delete “epf” and rename “eclipse” into “epf” (this way, we keep using the original epf.ini)
  • Optional: If you are paranoid, search for “x86” and delete all that don’t have “x86_64” in the name.
  • build yourself a shell script to launch epf. You need this, as the MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME variable needs to be set.
