I’ve been working with Eclipse (as a Platform, not IDE) for a long time, and I really like the architecture.  But at the same time, web interfaces are getting more and more powerful and are sufficient for many purposes.  And when I started playing with GWT, I was really impressed.  This is a great platform…

Integrating Jetty in Eclipse

Honestly, this was surprisingly awkward and frustrating.  I expected this to be easy, because (1) GWT uses Jetty by default, if run through the Eclipse IDE, and (2) Eclipse uses Jetty for the integrated help system.  However, none of the existing plugins allowed me to do what I wanted, namely starting Jetty automatically when it was needed, configured correctly to access the plug-in containing the web application.  I ended up writing my own jettyrunner plug-in.
